After the first meet of the season for the Whitewater golf team was postponed, the Whitewater High School golf team opened its 2017 season in an invitational held at Hawk’s View Golf Club.

Despite having to wait until April 10 to start the team’s season, of the 18 holes that were ready to be played, teams only played nine of them due to rain cancelling the back nine. With just nine holes being played, the Whippets finished in third-place overall with its team score of 198.

Leading the way was senior captain Jake Walton, who scored a 46. Behind Walton was another senior captain in Whitney Treder, who carded a 50.

Right behind Treder, were two Whippets totaling 51 apiece in Thomas McManaway and Billie Jo Parker. Finishing up for Whitewater was Tommy Cushman, scoring a 56. That invitational on April 10.

That next day, against conference competition, Whitewater played at Alpine Valley in East Troy. The Whippets’ team score totaled 198 and Parker led the team this time around with his score of 46. Walton carded a 49, while McManaway posted a 50 and Treder added a 53 to finish the scoring.

Whippet head coach Chris Wiegman said the team will look to build off its good start for next week when they continue RVC play at McFarland and Jefferson.
