Refreshing start to the New Year!

About 100 people take part in the Polar Plunge into Geneva Lake in Williams Bay on Jan. 1, including a mime, a superhero and a few carrying flags as they make their way into the frigid water. On the beach were hundreds more people, out to support the plungers with cheers, ready to wrap them in blankets upon their return to shore. Asked why they participate, answers included it being a tradition to celebrate being alive. (Penny Gruetzmacher photo)
