VERA MORTON

Morton Obit pic copy      Vera Morton passed away Jan. 22, 2016, at Congregational Home in Brookfield.

She was the much-loved mother of her six children: John (Willow), Carl (Elaine), Jane (Tyke), Tom, Suzanne (Tony) and Tim (Cindy); grandmother to seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl.

Vera made friends wherever she lived, from New Vienna, Iowa, where she was born Sept. 21, 1922, to Milan, Ill., where she met and married her husband, Carl, in 1946. They moved to Minonk, Ill., where they raised their six children while she worked as the Activity Director at Lida Home.

They retired to Whitewater, where she worked for Lutheran Services and lived on Whitewater Lake. In 2001 she moved to Blackhawk Manor where she thrived on the companionship of the community. Vera loved a good card game, dominos, Scrabble and travel but mostly it was an excuse for her to be with people. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends and good conversation. She was an avid sports fan and lifelong Cubs fan.

She and her husband spent winters in Hawaii with her son, John and daughter, Suzy and their families who live there. They both cherished their time there and will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific located in Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu.

Visitation will be at St. Patrick’s Church in Whitewater, April 29, 2016, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.

Becker Ritter Funeral Home of Brookfield is serving the family.
