On Nov. 11, the Wisconsin State Swim meet took place in Madison and marked the final competition of the girls swimming season. For Whitewater High School, two girls got to compete in the most prestigious meet in Wisconsin.

Junior Grace Fanshaw may have been younger than some of her competitors, but in the 500-meter freestyle, Fanshaw took fifth-place, earning herself a medal and a spot on the podium. Fanshaw’s time of 5:20.51 placed herself behind two seniors and two other juniors.

Whippets head coach Gina Foucault said it was Fanshaw’s first time competing at state and that she hopes to see her there again next year. Apart from Fanshaw, Whitewater’s Anna Yeazel competed in the 100-meter breaststroke and finished in 13th-place.

“It was awesome to have Anna’s last swim as a Whippet be in her favorite event at the State meet,” Foucault said. “Good luck to Anna as she moves on to college swimming, we will miss her next year.”
