The WIAA girls tennis Sub Sectionals took place on Oct. 3 and the best from the Rock Valley Conference were on display. For Whitewater High School, the team lost some close matches but was very competitive in certain spots according to head coach Tim Nelson.

“Amanda Kraayvanger played some excellent points and games against Conference Champion Jazmyne Schoeller,” Nelson said. “Amanda finishes up her career with 50 singles wins and a three-time conference medalist.

The duo of Maggie Hough and Hannah Delaney won their first match of the day over Big Foot, 6-1, 6-2. They then faced East Troy, who got the best of the Whippets once again. Nelson said both Hough and Delaney have shown a lot of improvement over the course of the season.

For the Whippets’ No. 1 doubles duo of Milena Maroske and Whitney Treder, they will be moving onto Sectionals thanks to their play. Maroske and Treder started out a little slow, Nelson said, but once they got going, he was very pleased with how they performed.

Sectionals were slated to begin Oct. 5. The WIAA State Meet will start its three-day event on Oct. 13 at Nielsen Stadium in Madison.
