Brodhead-Juda spoiled the homecoming festivities at Whitewater High School last Friday night as the Whippets fell 42-12 at home. For the second straight week, the Whitewater High School football team gave their opponent decent field position in the first half that attributed to many of their opponent’s scores.

After a three and out for the Whippets’ offense, Brodhead-Juda got the ball for their first possession on the 43-yard line. Six plays later, running back Bryson Ils ran one in from 13 yards out for the 7-0 lead.

On the next possession, Whippets quarterback Daniel Fuller threw his first of four interceptions on the night to Nick Hack. Brodhead-Juda only needed one play after the interception as quarterback Matt Schmitt would hit senior wide receiver Tyler Hoesly for a 21 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.

“We weren’t sharp in the passing game,” head coach Tom Grosinske said. “We’ve been on a roll in our passing game and decisions weren’t as sharp.”

Three plays later, Fuller threw his second interception to Bryson Ils. However, Will Leibbrand recovered a fumble two plays later to get the ball back for Whitewater.

After a Whippets punt, Brodhead-Juda would get the ball again past the 50-yard line at the 47. Three plays later, they were in the end zone again as Schmitt would hit Parker Johnson for a 34 yard touchdown pass to make 21-0 after the first quarter.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Fuller would throw his third interception giving Brodhead-Juda the ball back at the 17-yard line. Four plays later, Jack Speckman was in the end zone from one yard out to make it 28-0.

On the next play, Fuller was intercepted again as Skylar Stuckey got into the act for the Brodhead-Juda defense. Three plays later, Parker Johnson was in the end zone from four yards out to make it 35-0.

After the Whippets turned it over on downs at midfield, Brodhead-Juda’s Speckman added his second touchdown of the game to make it 42-0 at the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Whippets showed their perseverance and got on the board three plays into the fourth quarter. Daniel Fuller added a positive note to this performance as he hit wide receiver Jimmy DuVal on a 49 yard touchdown pass to make it 42-6.

“We always seem to find a couple of decent drives in a game,” Grosinske said. “Our goal is to continue to put more of them together to continue to be competitive.”

On the next possession the Whippets forced a fumble and got the ball back at the 35-yard line. After a few Ernie Magana runs, Fuller ran it in from one yard out to make it 42-12.

Fuller was 8-for-21 for 103 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions. Magana was the leading rusher for the Whippets with 10 carries for 21 yards. DuVal led the Whippets in receiving with three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. Magana was the second leading receiver with two receptions for 21 yards.

Brodhead-Juda improves to 4-3 on the year, while the Whippets go to 0-7. Whitewater will travel to Big Foot Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
