On May 24, the Whitewater High School golf team had, and missed out, on the chance at making sectionals with its regional, which was held at the Fire Ridge Golf Course in Grafton. Junior Jake Walton, who carded a round of 97, missed making sectionals by just one place.

“Walton was one spot away from earning a trip to sectionals and is very disappointed in his finish, but he gave it his all on this particular day and that, as a coach, is all you can ask for,” said Whippets head coach, Chris Wiegman. “Next year, I really look for Jake to take that next step.”

May 24 marked the final day for the high school golfing careers for a couple seniors as well, in Jimmy Cushman and Jon Caldwell. Caldwell carded a 101, while Cushman finished with a 104.Wiegman talked about his seniors and what they meant to him and the Whippets’ program during their playing careers.

“Seniors Jimmy Cushman and Jon Caldwell were great leaders and we will have a lot to replace in their absence,” Wiegman said. “I cannot thank them enough for their leadership and dedication to Whippet golf.”
