The 2-10 Whitewater High School softball team had three games on its schedule this past week, but on May 10, the third game got rained out. The first of the two played was against Jefferson on May 5 at home.

The two teams played just two days prior, at Jefferson, and Jefferson won, 10-5. In this game on May 5, there was less scoring, but the end result remained the same.

Thanks to three walks in the bottom of the first inning, Whitewater got out to a 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, Jefferson scored two runs and then in the bottom of the inning, the Whippets responded with two of its own, giving the team a 3-2 lead after two innings.

Jefferson then scored in the top half of the third innings with two runs, giving them the 4-3 lead that would last the rest of the game. No team scored from the bottom of the third inning on.

Sara Johnson pitched for Whitewater, and Whippets head coach, Ron Sdano, said she pitched very well, as only two of her four runs allowed were earned. Johnson struck out and walked one batter throughout the game.

The team’s next contest took place the very next day, at home against Lakeside Lutheran. In this game, Lakeside Lutheran started with three runs in the top of the first inning and never relinquished the lead.

The Whippets would score five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the five weren’t enough, as the team ended up losing, 14-9. Jocelin Beecroft ended the game going 3-for-5 at the plate while scoring a run and knocking in a run.

Kailey Ruhl led the team with two runs and two RBIs while stealing a base in the game as well. Ruhl went 2-for-5 at the plate.

The Whippets are now 2-12 overall on the season and have three games left on its schedule for the regular season. All three games remaining are scheduled on the road.
