The Whitewater High School boys basketball team played one game last week and have one more game remaining on its regular season schedule before the WIAA sub-regionals begin. The Whippets entered the week with a 7-12 record and fell to 7-13 overall with a home loss to McFarland.

McFarland didn’t separate itself until the second half, as at halftime, the Whippets trailed, 18-16. McFarland would go on to outscore the home team, 31-20, and win, 49-36.

Only two players in the game, for either team, would score more than six points and for McFarland, Benjamin Rounds poured in a game-high 29. Rounds made 14-of-15 from the free throw line alone, which is more than what Whitewater made and attempted as team, going 9-of-10.

For the Whippets, Brodie Runez went 8-of-8 from the charity stripe en route to his team-high 14 points. Despite the loss, the Whippets forced McFarland into 13 turnovers compared to their four assists on made field goals.

Now at 7-13, the final regular season game is set to begin at 7:15 p.m. tonight, Feb. 25 at home, for senior night, against East Troy. East Troy has a 16-5 record on the season and is 14-1 in Rock Valley Conference (RVC) play.

The WIAA Tournament bracket was also announced this past weekend and the Whippets found out they had earned a No. 9 seed and will hit the road to play the No. 8 seed, Clinton, for a 7 p.m. tip-time on March 1. Clinton currently sports a 13-8 record and is on the opposite side of Whitewater in the RVC, as they compete in the RVC South.

In the two games the two teams have played each other during the regular season, Clinton won both. In the first meeting, Clinton went to Whitewater and won, 86-76. Then nearly a month later, Clinton followed with a home win, 70-65.

In the first game for Clinton’s Zach Krause, he scored 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds. In the second meeting, Krause recorded a 23-point, six-rebound game.
