The Whitewater High School girls tennis team has played a long line of 4-3 matches this year. In every contest but one, the Whippets have either won by a match, or lost by one. This last week was no different as Whitewater pulled off a narrow victory over East Troy.

On the singles end of the competition, Whitewater struggled a bit however, Amanda Kraayvanger pulled out a 7-5 second set to seal the overall victory, the only singles player to take a match against East Troy.

The other singles players could not pull the same feat off. Izzy Zahn continued a string of bad luck she’s had recently, dropping in straight sets in her match. Andi Markham fell in her singles match as did Serra Anderson.

But once again, as it has been much of the season, the Whippets’ doubles crew saved the day.

Sally Hixson and Alli Sedmark won their match in straight sets. Whitney Treder and Milena Maroske also made short work of their match, losing only one game. Rounding out the doubles, Emma Stutzman and Ali Ketterhagen persevered and held on to win a fairly tight match 7-6 and 6-4.

“It all came down to the third doubles match as we were tied 3-3,” coach Tim Nelson said afterwards. “The match kept going back and forth. Luckily, we were able to pull a little ahead when it mattered.”

“Hopefully, we can keep our focus as we move into the conference tournament. It is going to be a long evening with action starting at 3 p.m. at both the UWW and WHS tennis courts,” Nelson added.
