Swimmers strong at season’s first dual meet

The lady Whippets swim team absolutely crushed the competition at their first dual meet of the season, coming in first place in 10 of the 11 races.

Winners included: 200 Medley Relay – Madeline Kuhl, Anna Yeazel, Sara Foucault, Sydney Zimdars; 200 Freestyle – Sydney Zimdars; 200 Individual Medley – Grace Fanshaw; 50 Freestyle – Sara Foucault; 100 Freestyle – Sara Foucault; 500 Freestyle – Grace Fanshaw; 200 Freestyle Relay – Sydney Hackney, Grace Fanshaw, Alyssa Nelson, Sara Foucault; 100 Backstroke – Sydney Zimdars; 100 Breaststroke – Anna Yeazel; 400 Freestyle Relay – Debra Krebs, Madeline Kuhl, Anna Yeazel, Sydney Zimdars

Junior varsity winners: 200 Individual Medley – Yvanna Strait; 100 Butterfly – Aide Mendoza; 500 Freestyle – Michelle Gantz; 100 Backstroke – Aide Mendoza.

The team had 12 first time varsity swimmers, a massive amount due to the senior turnover from last season.

“We are so proud of these girls,” head coach Gina Foucault said. “They put up some very fast times!”

Several girls posted notable relay splits including:  Megan Hartwell 29.41 50 Freestyle in the Medley Relay and a 1:16.37 in the 100 Freestyle on the 400 Freestyle Relay; Mati Tinazzi Martini posted a 39.59 50 Freestyle split, Emely Rodriguez posted a 40.38 50 Freestyle split, Alex Manske posted a 38.34 50 Freestyle and a 1:29.44 100 Freestyle split, Maritza Xochipa posted a 36.17 50 Freestyle and 1:27.06 100 Freestyle split; Sydney Zimdars posted a 58.64 100 Freestyle split on the 400 Freestyle Relay; Yvanna Strait posted a 1:20.04 100 Freestyle split.

“There were many great races tonight,” Foucault said.

Fifth at Elkhorn

The Whippet varsity squad then went on to finish fifth in an 11-team event at Elkhorn High School. Sara Foucault was the top Whippet finisher with a victory in the 100 backstroke.

Other top finishes included: fourth, 200 Medley Relay – Debra Krebs, Anna Yeazel, Sara Foucault and Sydney Zimdars; third, 200 Individual Medley – Grace Foucault; eighth, 200 Individual Medley – Sydney Hackney; sixth, 200 Freestyle Relay – Sydney Zimdars, Sydney Hackney, Grace Fanshaw and Sara Foucault; first, 100 Backstroke – Sara Foucault; fifth, 100 Backstroke – Sydney Zimdars; sixth, 100 Backstroke – Debra Krebs; fourth, 100 Breaststroke – Sara Foucault.

Scoring points for top 16 finishes included: 13th, 200 Medley Relay – Sydney Hackney, Grace Fanshaw, Meghan Kehoe and Madeline Kuhl; 11th, 200 Freestyle – Anna Yeazel; 11th, 50 Freestyle – Debra Krebs; 16th, 50 Freestyle – Madeline Kuhl; 16th, 200 Freestyle Relay – Ireland Marinaro, Michelle Gantz, Claire Treutel, Sierra Minton; 14th, 100 Backstroke – Sydney Hackney; 11th, 100 Breaststroke – Anna Yeazel; 12th, 100 Breaststroke – Grace Fanshaw; ninth, 400 Freestyle Relay – Anna Yeazel, Madeline Kuhl, Meghan Kehoe and Debra Krebs.

“We had several amazing swims, Foucault said. “It will be fun to have our first home meet tomorrow. A big thank you to teammates Yuli Espinoza and Tabitha Altreuter for traveling with the team and spending the day cheering on their teammates.”
