Things seemed very familiar to those in Whippets gear as the WHS hosted a cross country Alumni meet last week.

On the shortened track (2.5 miles), things went well as Sarah Ziolkowski and Andrea Sandoval have seen progress after a summer full of training. Carolina Oezer braved the sudden rainstorms that hit the area and cruised to a finish one minute faster than her times last season.

For the boys, James Ehlen is still the top runner yet Jon Zimdars has cut 18 seconds from his times last year. Wentao Guo dropped a minute off of his time from last year and Jimmy King was not to be out done by his peers as he chopped his time down by nearly 90 seconds. Jack Downs and Nathan Cagney, combined, have dropped five minutes off of their pace last season.

“The varsity seven from last year to this year is significantly different with new runners of all ages and others nipping in their heels which makes for great practices and meets,” head coach Chad Carstens said

“All the alumni, parents and staff that competed made for a fun and unique event and memories that will last a lifetime. Special recognition to Doug Parker, WHS Principal and Eric Runez, WUSD Superintendent, for weathering the storm and earning large amounts of respect for competing in today’s event,” he added.
