Last Monday night the Whippets went on the road to Elkhorn for a non-conference match up with an SLC opponent.

Whitewater was cold at the plate, getting only one hit and having only five base runners total resulting in a 10-0 loss to Elkhorn.

Michaela Schumacher, who made the start on the mound, had the team’s only hit on the night. The Whippets drew two walks and also had players get hit by a pitch.

In the second and fifth innings Whitewater was able to threaten with runners in scoring position, though both of those attempts came up bare.

Schumacher pitched three solid innings before giving way to Emily Stoll and Izzy Zahn. The Whippet pitchers had four strikeouts and gave up 11 walks combined.

“We have to get our bats going,” coach Dan Dowden said. “It does not matter if we give up one run or ten if we don’t score a few times ourselves. We will continue to work to get the offense started and the defense improved.”

At 2-7 in conference, the Whippets could use some wins at the right time to get them back on track beginning with matches against Big Foot and conference foe Jefferson in a twin bill. Jefferson is just 1-4 in conference right now.
