The Whitewater High School track teams are heading into the season at a peculiar time due to spring break causing some runners to miss out on the early season action. That did not stop those who did participate from performing well against the Fort Atkinson Blackhawks this past week. The Blackhawks, a Division 1 program, won both the boys and girls team competitions overall.

Whitewater’s Liz Mielke was once again the star on the girls side, running the fifth fastest time ever for a Whippet on the mile, placing at 5:26.5.

Kailey Reynolds took the top spot in two events – the 55-meter dash and the pole vault while Shannon Kehoe got in on the winning too by finishing first in the triple jump event.

On the boys team, Whitewater had six separate winners beginning with Dallas Jones who won his own 55-meter dash. Bryan Parker won the 200-meter dash and Joe Bullis took the 400.

Xhonatan Shahollari took the triple jump, Brad Stoll conquered the shot put and Keagen Stonewerth won the pole vault. Rounding out the top spots for the Whippet boys track team were Landon Walker and Jon Cutshall, who took second and third place respectively in the shot put.

Right now, for head coach John Houwers, it’s all about performing well with less than a full crew.

“We were at partial strength, since it is spring break for both schools. But that didn’t stop those that were here from putting on some good performances,” he said.
