Whippet swim team members honored

“The year-end banquet for the WHS Boys Swimming Team was a happy and memorable affair,” head coach Joan Dimitrz said. In a statement released following the season’s end she highlighted that this year’s team broke all but one of Whitewater High School’s records for swimming.

At the WIAA State Swimming Championships, Jon Zidmars took fourth in the 100-yard butterfly and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle. Benny Liang finished ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke. The relay team took eighth in the 200-yard medley and seventh in the 400-yard freestyle. As a team, the Whippets took eighth place out of 34 teams.

Taking first team All-conference honors were: Jon Zidmars and Jason Shelbourn. Second team honors went to Benny Liang and Wentao Guo. Seth Bols took home honorable mention.

The most valuable Whippet award went to Jon Zidmars, and most improved to Jack Downs. The team’s Unsung Hero was presented to Andrew Gildner. Most dedicated rookies went to Jack Downs and Mitchell Dalzin, while the most dedicated veterans went to Benny Liang and Jon Zidmars.

Earning Varsity Letters for WHS swimming were:  Seth Bols, Andrew Gildner, Chamath Gunawardena, Wentao Guo, Gabe Heller, Benny Liang, Devin Samaranayake, Jason Shelbourn, Jonathon Zimdars and Kit Zoesch/Laumann.
