For the sixth time in seven years, the Whitewater High School wrestling team had to settle for second place in the 7-team Division 2 Regionals.

Individually, 11 of the teams 13 wrestlers finished in the top four of their weight class. Though only the top two in each weight class advances to Sectionals on Saturday, this was quite an achievement for the team to have so many high caliber wrestlers.

Overall, James Ehlen (160), John Saylor (152 lbs), Samson Shekey (182 lbs) and Tommy DuVal (195 lbs) all will be headed on to Sectionals with a chance to head to State after that.

“Our main focus is still very much on our qualifiers to get them to the state tournament so they reach their ultimate goal,” said head coach John Schimming after the meet.

“Many of our wrestlers got valuable experience on the varsity level and made great gains as the season progressed. It was a great year for them,” he added.
