The Whitewater High School boys swim team entered sectionals last weekend looking to put an impressive stamp on an up and down season. Following the meet, the Whippets learned that two of its relay teams and four individual swimmers are heading to state.

“All season long the boys number one goal was to get a relay or two to the State meet because it had never been done,” said head coach Judy Domitrz. “The day became a run on personal best times and school records.”

Indeed, the quartet of Wentao Guo, Benny Liang, Jason Shelbourn and Jon Zimdars qualified for the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:43.10 and the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:23.04 taking second place in both. Both of those times are also school records.

Individual state qualifiers are Jon Zidmars (100 Fly and 500 Free) and Benny Liang (100 Fly and 100 Breast).

Individual school records were broken in the 100 Fly, 500 Free, 100 Free (Jon Zidmars) and the 100 Breast (Benny Liang).
