Lady Chief runs to victory at invitational

Netters fall to Elkhorn; spikers sweep Bay

Big Foot senior Alexandria “Zanzie” Demco paced the field at last week’s Cam-Rock Cross Country Invitational in Cambridge.

Demco won the individual title in 20:17 to highlight the day for the Chiefs, who were 10th overall in the 13-team field. On the boys’ side, the Big Foot effort was led by senior Evan Rees, who was 54th overall in 19:33.03. Big Foot was 16th as a team.

Finishing behind Demco were sophomore Samantha Eidmann, 26th (22:37.3); freshman Tess Gillingham, 55th (24:26.85); sophomore Maya Torrez, 69th (25:34.06); sophomore Viola Larson, 78th (26:20.71); and sophomore Isabel Chisamore, 82nd (26:55.41).

Big Foot tallied 229 points. Marshall won the team title with 75 points, followed by Deerfield/Cambridge with 113, Madison East with 122, Portage with 134 and Poynette with 139.

Rounding out the team scores were Clinton with 144 points, Edgerton with 175, Lodi with 186, Westfield/Montello with 209, Big Foot, Rio/Rall River with 236, Madison Country Day with 276 and Beloit Turner with 292.

Crossing the finish line behind Rees for the Big Foot boys were sophomore Jacob Curtis, 92nd (21:47.71); senior Titus Frederick, 98th (23:08.76); freshman Dawson Grever, 100th (23:58.03); freshman Aaron Bucholz, 103rd (24:55.87); freshman Jonathan Ocampo, 104th (26:58.03); and sophomore Malachi Frederick, 105th (27:14.28).

Big Foot recorded 447 points as a team.

Madison East won the event with 65 points, followed by Madison Edgewood and Portage with 88, Marshall with 160 and Turner with 184.

Finishing out of the top five were Deerfield/Cambridge with 187, Edgerton with 196, Lodi with 220, Randolph/Cambria-Friesland with 235, Pardeeville with 236, Clinton with 247, Poynette with 271, Madison Country Day with 307, Johnson Creek with 333 and Westfield/Montello with 422.

Both Big Foot squads were back in action at the 15-team Ladish Invitational at East Troy on Thursday. The Chiefs will compete at the nine-team Edgerton Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 4 p.m.

Tennis falls to Elks

The Big Foot-Williams Bay girls tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 nonconference decision Tuesday to Elkhorn.

Picking up wins for the Chiefs were sophomore Clare Heckert at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 3-6 (10-6); sophomore Annie Rowe at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0; and the No. 1 doubles team of seniors Meredith Heckert and Izzy Klesmith, 6-3, 6-0.

Falling to the Elks were senior Hannah Schmidt at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 4-6; sophomore Keaton Sperling at No. 2, 2-6, 1-6; senior Sam Hartwig and sophomore Hannah Palmer at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-7 (6), (7-10); and senior Nikita Jones and junior Claire Beyers at No. 3, 3-6, 6-7 (2).

Big Foot hosted Jefferson in a Rock Valley Conference dual meet Thursday, and will host Edgerton on Monday, Sept. 11, at 4:15 p.m. The Chiefs travel to East Troy on Tuesday, Sept. 12, to face the Trojans at 4:15 p.m.

 

 

Volleyball sweeps Bay

The Big Foot girls volleyball team picked up a 25-22, 25-18 non-conference win Tuesday night over Williams Bay.

Individual statistics were unavailable.

Big Foot opens RVC action Sept. 12, when it hosts Brodhead at 6:30 p.m.
