Big Foot-Williams Bay wrestlers ninth at invite

The Big Foot-Williams Bay wrestling team finished ninth at the nine-team Panther Brawl Jan. 7 at Palmyra.

Whitewater won the team title with 200.5 points, followed by Union Grove with 168 and Mayville with 100. Big Foot had 41.5 points.

Travis Berryman led the way for the Chiefs, as he won all four matches to bring home the 126-pound title. Berryman, now 15-3 overall, posted two pinfall victories and another by technical fall.

The Chiefs’ other top finish came from Nick Freymiller, who was fourth at 285 pounds.

Berryman, currently ranked seventh at 120 pounds according to Crossface Magazine, had Big Foot’s only victory in a 58-6 RVC dual meet loss Jan. 5 to visiting Clinton. Berryman pinned Gavin Rankins in 1:15.

Dropping matches to the Cougars were Ethan Roland (170), by pin in 2:58 to Zach Wynstra; Malachi Fredrick (182), by pin in 1:04 to Charly Pinto; Freymiller (285), by pin in 3:26 to Jenson Herrera; Titus Frederick (138), by pin in 3:18 to Clay Ward; and Christian Flores (145), by major decision 13-3 to Colin Warpula.

Big Foot was back in action Jan. 13 when it traveled to Palmyra-Eagle to face the Panthers and Parkview in a triangular. Results will appear in the Jan. 20 Walworth/Fontana/Williams Bay Times.
