Big Foot binges on goals

Chiefs total up 19 goals in three matches, crushing opponents in the process

The Big Foot-Williams Bay boys soccer team has been on a goal-scoring binge the past week.

And that certainly continued Tuesday night against visiting Edgerton.

The Chiefs, who scored 19 goals in three matches Saturday, added seven more against the Tide and cruised to a 7-2 victory. The win improved Big Foot to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the RVC.

Big Foot scored twice in the first 20 minutes Tuesday and added four more goals before the intermission to take a commanding 6-0 lead at halftime.

Seven different players reached the scoring column, as Freddie Mannelli, Chris Oliver, Cory Shea, Juan Mercado, Ludovic Resendiz, Adrian Hernandez and Avery Lettenberger each had one goal.

Resendiz and Hernandez had two assists apiece, while Eder Lavariega had one. Big Foot goalies Lars Larsen and Jon Turpel each recorded a save.

Big Foot posted a 2-1 rec-ord at its own invitational Saturday.

The Chiefs fell 3-1 to Sugar River in the opener, but bounced back to roll past St. Johns Northwestern Military Academy 7-0 and Richland Center 11-1.

Sugar River led 3-0 before Hernandez scored the Chiefs’ only goal at the 46:50 mark. Larsen finished with four saves.

Resendiz led the scoring onslaught against St. Johns with the hat trick, followed by Shea with two goals and Mannelli and Oliver each with one.

Hamilton Smith and Foster Isham each had two assists, while Larsen added one. Larsen also had three saves, while Turpel added one.

Goals came early and often for Big Foot against Richland Center, as the Chiefs scored one minute into the match and led 7-0 by the 24th minute.

Leading the way were Juan Mercado, Resendiz and Lettenberger with two goals apiece, followed by Mannelli, Oliver, Lavariega, Shea and Logan Grunow each with one.

Lavariega also had three assists, while Hernandez had two and Mannelli and Mercado one apiece. Turpel recorded two saves.

Big Foot hosted Racine Case Thursday night and hosts Elkhorn Saturday at noon.
