Baseball falls in regional final

The 2015 spring season came to an end last week for the two remaining Big Foot teams still involved in tournament play.

Big Foot’s baseball team, which won a regional opener last Tuesday, fell in a regional final the following day 7-1 to defending Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 state champion Jefferson.

The season ended June 4 for the Big Foot-Williams Bay girls soccer team in a 2-0 loss to visiting Evansville in a Division 3 regional opener.

Big Foot finished the baseball season at 9-15 overall, while the girls soccer squad ended at 13-7.

The soccer matchup with fifth-seeded Evansville was scoreless at halftime. The Blue Devils broke the tie with two goals five minutes apart in the second half.

Big Foot goalie Enna Peterson finished the match with seven saves.

Evansville saw its tourney run end in a regional final with a 5-0 loss to top-seeded Belleville-New Glarus.

The regional loss ended the Big Foot playing careers of seniors Rachel Heidenreich, Ally Mazur and Kathryn Colby.

Results of All-Rock Valley Conference voting will run in a future edition.

Jefferson pulls away

Jefferson broke open a close game in the sixth inning with four runs to account for the final score. Big Foot pushed its only run across the plate in the top of the fourth.

Brandon Hausner drove in the Chiefs’ lone run with a hit that scored Zak Greco.

Alex Landers led the offense with two hits, while Jack Senft, Chandler Hehr and Mark Schauf each had one.

Hausner went the distance to take the loss, as h allowed seven hits, seven runs, two walks and struck out four. Just two of the runs charged to Hausner were earned, as the Chiefs committed six errors.

Jefferson’s title defense ended Tuesday afternoon in the sectional semifinal, as the Eagles fell 5-2 to eventual state qualifier Milwaukee Lutheran.
