The past week was a bit of a challenge for the Big Foot softball and baseball teams.

Only a 10-4 win by the baseball team April 30 over Brodhead prevented both teams from going winless in two Rock Valley Conference contests.

The baseball team fell 3-2 at Evansville Monday, and with the split, now are 4-9 overall and 4-5 in the RVC.

Big Foot’s softball squad dropped a 4-1 decision April 30 to Brodhead and a 6-1 setback Monday at Evansville. The Chiefs now are 6-6 overall.

The Chiefs led Monday’s baseball game 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Evansville pushed the tying and winning runs across the plate for the 3-2 win.

Brandon Hausner led the offense with a hit and two RBI, followed by Connor McCarthy, who had the Chiefs’ only other hit. Alex Landers and Zak Greco each scored a run for Big Foot.

Chandler Hehr took the tough loss on the mound, as he pitched 6 2-3 innings, and allowed five hits, two earned runs, four walks and struck out four.

Big Foot took advantage of eight Brodhead errors en route to the 10-4 win to open the week.

The Chiefs led 3-0 after two innings and blew the game open in the third with five more.

Big Foot banged out 14 hits, including four and three runs scored by Brendan Kelley. Foster Isham added three hits and three runs scored, followed by Greco with two triples and four RBI and Hausner with two hits and an RBI.

Hehr added two RBI in the win for Big Foot.

Mark Schauf picked up the win, as he worked four innings, and allowed seven hits, three walks and struck out two. All three runs charged to Schauf were unearned.

Hausner pitched the final three innings, and allowed two hits, an earned run, a walk and struck out one.

Big Foot was back in action Thursday against visiting Palmyra-Eagle. The Chiefs travel to Union Grove Saturday for a non-conference contest with the Broncos.

Softball drops two

Big Foot scored its only run in the top of the fourth inning Monday in a 6-1 loss to Evansville.

The Blue Devils did all their offensive damage the first three innings with two in the opening frame, one in the second and three more in the third.

Camryn Horton had a hit, a run scored and an RBI for Big Foot, which had just two hits in the contest. Courtney Schoenbeck had the other for the Chiefs.

Riley Davis went the distance in the circle to take the loss, as she allowed 12 hits, five earned runs, two walks and struck out five.

Visiting Brodhead took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning April 30 and never looked back in a 4-1 victory.

Big Foot’s lone run came in the fifth inning on an RBI hit by Davis. Katie Santeler led the offense with two hits, followed by Morgan Stalker with a hit and a run scored, Schoenbeck with a hit, Davis with a hit and an RBI and Horton with a hit.

Stalker pitched 2 1-3 innings, and allowed a hit, two earned runs, two walks and struck out three. Davis worked 4 2-3 innings, and allowed three hits, two earned runs and struck out four.

Big Foot hosted Palmyra-Eagle Thursday and travels to Williams Bay Friday. The Chiefs travel to Beloit Turner next Tuesday, May 12.
