Soccer takes win in final minutes

The Big Foot-Williams Bay girls soccer team needed just nine minutes Tuesday night to get on the scoreboard.

And as it turns out, that was all the offense the Chiefs would need.

Rachel Heidenreich scored an unassisted goal at the nine-minute mark and Big Foot made that stand in a 1-0 non-conference win over visiting Monroe.

Big Foot goalie Enna Peterson had four saves in the win.

The victory improved Big Foot to 6-2 overall heading into a key Rock Valley Conference road match Thursday at East Troy.

Heading into that RVC tilt, the Chiefs are tied on top of the standings with McFarland, both at 5-2. East Troy, Evansville and Whitewater are locked in a three-way tie for second at 4-2.

The win Tuesday came on the heels of a 10-0 blowout victory for the Chiefs April 27 over visiting Edgerton.

Big Foot led 6-0 at halftime and closed the match with four more goals.

Heidenreich had a hat trick with three goals to lead the way, followed by Penny Brooks with two goals and two assists. Payton Courier had a goal and an assist, while Annalise Floody, Morgan Grunow, Maureen Hammett and Maddie Palmer each had a goal.

Kathryn Colby added two assists in the win. Peterson was credited with one save.

Following Thursday’s matchup at East Troy, the Chiefs travel to Palmyra-Eagle next Monday, May 4, followed by a home match Tuesday, May5, against Jefferson, at 6:45 p.m.
