Badger tennis brings home SLC title

The Lake Geneva Badger tennis team brought home a Southern Lakes Conference championship last week.

The Badger dominated the semi-final round of the SLC Tournament on Sept. 26 wining every match. In singles action, Zaya Idersul defeated Cami Good of Union Grove (6-0, 6-0) and Brynn Amundson of Wilmot (6-0, 6-0). Sydney Miller defeated Abby Wilks of Union Grove (6-0, 6-1) and Trinity Northrop of Burlington (6-0, 6-1). Annabelle Alberts defeated Audrey Morgan of Waterford (6-0, 6-0) and Courtney Raboine of Burlington (6-1, 6-1). Tinker Trent defeated Karra Regnier of Wilmot (6-0, 6-0) and Abigail Boettcher of Burlington (6-0, 6-0).

In doubles action, Ava Anderson and Lillie Ripkey defeated Megan Way and Jordan Krause of Burlington (6-0, 6-0) and Janell Gillmore and Emily Wermeling (6-2, 6-4). Sophia Strasser and Maya Lyng defeated Dia Patel and Maria Shackett of Delavan-Darien (6-0, 6-0) and Brooke Weis and Kelsey Kemper of Union Grove (6-0, 6-1). Lauren Haas and Jaiden Lauer defeated Delaney Snow and Madeline Haug of Wilmot (6-0, 6-1) and Abby Cook and Clare Korosec of Elkhorn (6-0, 6-2).

The Badgers followed that up by winning all of its matches in the finals on Sept. 28. Idersul defeated Tristan Jantz of Westosha Central (6-0, 6-0), Miller defeated Alexandra Wells of Westosha Central (6-0, 6-0), Alberts defeated Chloe Alcalde of Westosha Central (6-1, 6-0), and Trent defeated Brenna Lekschas of Union Grove (6-2, 6-3).

The doubles teams of Ripkey/Anderson defeated Kaitlyn Krause and Kayla Maurer of Union Grove (6-4, 6-4), Strasser/Lyng defeated Kenna Beth and Paige Wysiatko of Westosha Central (6-3, 6-3), and Haas/Lauer defeated Kyra Hagen and Sam Chizek of Union Grove (6-4, 6-2).

The Badgers also beat Westosha Central in a dual meet on Sept. 23. Idersul (6-0, 6-1), Miller (6-2, 6-0), Alberts (6-0, 6-0), and Trent (6-1, 6-0) all won their singles matches. The doubles teams of Anderson/Ripkey (7-5, 6-3) and Haas/Lauer (2-6, 7-6, 6-3) also won.

The Badgers host the WIAA subsectional on Oct. 7 with the chance to advance to the sectional at Oconomowoc on Oct. 9.
