Elkhorn opened postseason play Tuesday with a win at home in a regional semifinal match against Wilmot.

The Elks are seeded No. 1 in their sectional bracket. Wilmot (0-13) is seeded 16th.

Elkhorn (17-1-0, 9-0 SLC) is ranked second in Division 2 in the latest Wisconsin Soccer Coached Association state poll.

Elks coach BZ Kayser said the Elks celebrated Senior Night against Milton.

“We moved some people around and had people in different positions,” Kayser said. “We didn’t want to show Milton too much. We might play them Saturday.”

Milton is in the Elks’ sectional bracket, and is seeded ninth. Milton played Stoughton in a regional semifinal Tuesday at McFarland. Elkhorn will play the winner of the Stoughton-Milton match Saturday at Elkhorn for the regional title.

“I think the guys did a great job adjusting to some new spots and different things,” Kayser said of the match against Milton (8-10-1). “It was a big game of keep away. We possessed the ball really well.”

Ray Beilman, Luis Roman, Hayden Wisniewski and Luke Schoeneberg scored goals for the Elks. Beilman, Ian Hembree and Luke Truesdale each finished with an assist.

“Everyone did what they needed to do,” Kayser said. “I think they’re getting a little antsy right now. I think they’re ready for the big picture.”

Delavan-Darien (17-2-3, 6-2-1 SLC) is ranked second in Division 3 in the latest WSCA state poll.

“We completely dominated the first half,” Kayser said. “That’s the first time in all the years I’ve been here where we outplayed them for the first 30 minutes of the game.”

Kayser said the match came down to whether either side wanted to compete – nothing was at stake – but the victory allowed the Elkhorn senior class to finish 26-0-1 in SLC matches over the past three years.
