Devon Davey of the Elkhorn Area High School boys track & field team finished fifth in the 400-meter dash June 1 in the WIAA Division 1 state boys track & field meet at UW-La Crosse.

Madison Page, of the Elks’ girls track & field team, finished fifth in the long jump in Division 1.

Davey and Page and the rest of the Elks qualified for state out of a sectional tournament May 23 at Badger High School in Lake Geneva.

“It was a great weekend for us up at the state meet,” coach Cody Christensen said. “I can’t say enough about Devon – to qualify on championship Saturday in three events just shows how good he really is.”

Davey qualified for the finals in the 400-meter dash, the 200 and in the Elks 4×400 relay.

Davey finished fifth in the 400 with a time of 49.38. Davey finished ninth in the 200 with a time of 22.26.

In the Elks’ 4×400 relay Davey ran in the preliminaries, but did not race the final. Matt Franz, Caden Reece, Lucas Koepke and Mason Stebnitz finished the 4×400 in 3:28.39 and came in eighth.

Lucas Koepke finished 22nd in the 300 hurdles.

For the girls, Page finished fifth in the long jump with an effort of 18 feet, five inches.

“Madison Page was able to have her best jump of her career in her final attempt,” Christensen said. “That was a great moment for our girls program.

“That happened just after the girls 4×100 relay broke the school record in an impressive heat of the Division 1 girls 4×100 relay.”

The Elks’ 4×100 relay of Lea Connoly, Emily Beinert, Shannon Wulf and Page finished 16th in 49.86 seconds.

Megan Pauley finished 13th in the 400 (1:01.21).

“I love the way they went out and competed,” Christensen said. “At the end of the day that is what we want to be known for.”
