Nolan Shirk shot in the 70s for the second consecutive round and the Elkhorn Area High School boys golf team finished fourth May 3 in the Beloit Invite at Krueger Haskell Golf Course in Beloit.

Elks coach Brett Weber praised Shirk for another strong round. Shirk tied for eighth with a 79 and the Elks finished fifth April 23 in the third Southern Lakes Conference Major of the season, which took place at Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan.

“He didn’t let it get away from him,” Weber said of Shirk’s round at Krueger Haskell. “He had nothing higher than a five on his score card. He’s had two rounds in a row in the 70s, which is where he should be.”

Nolan Ahler finished with a 90 for Elkhorn. Weber said if Ahler is able to a few more greens in regulation in future rounds his score might drop into the 80s.

Nick Keller shot a 91 and Quentin ‘Q’ Woyak finished at 93. Hunter Krauklis shot a 96.

“As far as the team, we putted very well,” Weber said. “We only had one three-putt that counted with our team score.”

Weber said foul weather in recent weeks forced the Elks to spend more time inside working on their short game.

Elkhorn finished with a team score of 352. Madison Memorial won the meet with a score of 315. Among SLC schools Badger finished second (317).

Madison Memorial’s Silas Pickhardt won individual medalist honors (73).
