Elks punch tickets to La Crosse

Derek Davey qualified in two events and leads a contingent of three Elks to the WIAA Division 1 State Track & Field Championships this weekend at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of UW-LaCrosse.

Elkhorn’s Evan Blanton qualified for state in the shot put and Gabby Pinnow qualified in the high jump. The three qualified for state May 25 in a WIAA Division 1 sectional meet at Stoughton.

The top three in each event at each of eight sectional meets advanced to state. Individuals and relays whose performance puts them among the top eight statewide, even if they did not finish in the top three at a sectional, also advanced.

Derek Davey won the 400 in 50.02 seconds and finished third in the 800 in 1:56.41.

Pinnow won the high jump with an effort 5 feet, 3 inches.

Blanton finished third in the shot put with an effort of 49 feet, 7 inches.

Arandu Huerta finished sixth in the 800 (2:02.47) and Tyler Daehn finished sixth in the 100 hurdles (15.71).

Sam Divarco, Devon Davey, Kevin Romero and Derek Davey finished seventh in the 4×400 relay (3:30.87).

Justin Zoellner finished seventh in the triple jump (39-5.5).

Caleb Hembree finished eighth in the 3,200 (10:24.96) and Kevin Romero, Bryant Romero, Devon Davey and Caden Reece finished eighth in the 4×200 relay (1:36.91).

At Stoughton, Isabelle Ewan finished fourth in the 100 (12.55).

Kassie Thompson finished sixth in the 300 hurdles (51.51) and Taylor Bikowski finished seventh in the 100 hurdles (17.51).

Tiffany Orin, Pinnow, Madison Page and Ewan finished sixth in the 4×200 relay (1:48.99) and Kaitlyn Battistella, Elise Blum, Lauren Czys and Megan Pauley finished eighth in the 4×100 relay (55.74).

The Elkhorn boys finished 10th and the girls 14th at Stoughton. Oregon won the girls meet and Kenosha Indian Trail won the boys sectional title.

The Elks advanced to the sectional meet out of the Badger regional meet, which was held May 22 at Badger High School in Lake Geneva. The top four in each event at each of 16 regional meets advance to sectional competition.
