The Elkhorn Area High School girls soccer team posted its first two victories of the season last week.

The Elks beat Somers Shoreland Lutheran 3-1 April 20 and Stoughton 2-0 April 18, both in non-conference matches and both at home.

Elkhorn played a non-conference match Tuesday at Milton (2-4), and play a non-conference match today at home against East Troy (0-5).

The Elks (2-3) play a non-conference match Saturday at home against Monona Grove (3-1-2).

Olivia May scored in the 39th minute off an assist from Cameron Jacobson and gave the Elks a 1-0 halftime lead against Stoughton (2-4-1).

May assisted on Leesa Sesing’s goal in the 75th minute of the second half.

“I don’t think we played well against Stoughton, to be quite honest,” Elks coach BZ Kayser said. “We did some things that were messy. We were the better team, and we deserved to get the win – we just didn’t play the greatest.”

Kayser said the Elks outmatched Shoreland Lutheran. May scored three first-half goals against the Pacers (4-2).

“We were just a better team than them,” Kayser said. “They’re having a nice season, and have a nice team. They’ll make a nice run in the sectional this year.”

Tuesday’s match against Milton is a rematch for the Elks. Milton ended Elkhorn’s 2016 season.

The Elks lost 2-1 to the Red Hawks June 4 in a regional final match at Elkhorn. Kayser said the match against Milton was the most physical the Elks played last season.

“We had opportunities to tie that game up and win it at times, too,” Kayser said. “It was one of those games.”

Kayser said some of the Elks’ shots against the Red Hawks went over the top of the frame and also bounced-off the post.

Elkhorn opens Southern Lakes Conference play May 2 at home against Burlington.
