Whitewater broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the sixth inning and beat Elkhorn 7-4 April 21 in a non-conference baseball game at Whitewater.

The Elks lost 10-1 April 20 in a Southern Lakes Conference game at Wilmot and beat Wilmot 13-8 April 18 in a SLC game at home.

Elkhorn played Tuesday at Union Grove, and host the Broncos today, in SLC games.

The Elks jumped on the Whippets (6-1) for three runs in the first inning, and added another in the third.

Whitewater scored a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to tie the score before pushing across the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Zach Hunter tallied three hits and drove in two runs for the Elks. Lucas Harding and Jordan VanDyke each drove in a run. The Elks tallied four hits against the Whippets.

Four Elkhorn pitchers allowed the Whippets just five hits.

Anzalone said walks and passed balls hurt the Elks against Whitewater, and said Elkhorn needs to find a way to be more consistent with its at-bats.

The Elks’ Jet Weber finished with five hits, scored four runs and drove in a run in the victory against Wilmot (3-3, 2-3 SLC).

“He always come to play,” Anzalone said. “He’s a pretty focused kid. He’s a good player. Overall, our kids’ approach at the plate was better Tuesday then Thursday or Friday.

“We got ahead in the count as hitters, and we hit the ball better, as far as putting it in play and hitting it hard.”

The Elks (2-4, 2-3 SLC) tallied 16 hits against the Panthers, and scored in every inning but the third.

Nick Rockweiler, Harding, VanDyke each finished with two hits and drove in two runs. Dakota Biefeld, Kyle Gosh and Chance Larson each tallied a hit.

Anzalone said the Elks struggled to hit in their loss to Wilmot. Elkhorn finished with five hits to the Panthers’ 10. Anzalone also said the Elks are still working to set their pitching rotation.

“We’re working our way through our pitching, trying to figure that out,” Anzalone said. “If you give up walks, you can get yourself in trouble.”

Elkhorn struck out nine times against Wilmot, and issues the Panthers four walks.
