Tough stretch for baseball boys

The Elkhorn Area High School baseball team started the week on a three-game losing streak.

The Elks lost 5-4 May 6 in eight innings in a non-conference game at Palmyra against Palmyra-Eagle. Elkhorn dropped two Southern Lakes Conference games to Westosha Central – 8-5 May 5 at Paddock Lake and 13-10 May 3 at home.

Elkhorn (3-8, 3-6 SLC) played the Demons Tuesday at home and today at Burlington (9-3, 7-1 SLC) in SLC games. The Elks play a SLC game Friday at Union Grove (4-11, 3-5 SLC).

Palmyra-Eagle (6-6) tied the Elks at 4-4 after stealing home in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the eighth the Panthers put a runner on base with a walk, and advanced the runner to second base with a sacrifice. A double to right field drove in the winning run.

The Elks trailed 3-2 and took the lead with two runs in the fifth.

Jordan Van Dyke led the Elks with three hits and Brandon Komar tallied two. Lucas Harding drove in two runs. The Elks outhit the Panthers 11-10.

In the 8-4 loss to Central (10-6, 5-3 SLC) the Elks opened with three runs in the first. The Falcons answered with four in the second and scored another two in the sixth.

The Elks put up a run in the fifth, but Central answered with a run in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Komar pitched a complete game for the Elks and allowed seven hits and struck out five. Komar finished with a hit and a RBI at the plate. Jet Weber and Ian Nowell each finished with two hits. Van Dyke drove in a run.
