Derek Davey almost set a school record in the 800-meter run and Alyssa Reeves excelled against the best competition the Elkhorn Area High School boys and girls track & field teams have seen so far this season May 6 in the Tider Invitational at Edgerton High School.

The Elks competed May 10 in their own Elkhorn Invitational at EAHS. Elkhorn competes May 17 in the Southern Lakes Conference Tournament at Badger High School in Lake Geneva.

Coach Steve Simonson said Davey demonstrated why he is one of the region’s best in the 800. Davey missed the Elks’ record in the 800 by two-tenths of a second. Davey won the race in 1 minute, 57.33 seconds. The school record is 1:57.31.

“We expect that he will break that record before the season ends,” Simonson said.

Reeves won the 1,600 in 5:25.96 against the best field she’s seen so far this year. Reeves led the Elkhorn girls to a sixth-place finish (60.5 points). Jefferson won the girls meet (150.6).

Davey led the Elkhorn boys to an eighth-place finish (46.5). Lodi won the boys meet (119).

For the girls, Taylor Mair finished second in the 3,200 (11:54.60) and Gabby Pinnow finished third in the 400 (1:01.92) and high jump (5 feet).

Madison Page finished fifth in the long jump (15-8) and Katie Hickey finished fifth in the pole vault (8 feet).

Tiffany Orin, Page, Payton Christensen and Isabella Ewan finished fifth in the 4×100 relay (52.70) and Megan Pauley, Ryley Rand, Elise Blum and Hailey Czubernaut finished fifth in the 4×200 (1:55.70).

In the boys meet, Tyler Daehn finished second in the 110 hurdles (16.16) and third in the long jump (19-5).
