The Elkhorn Area High School girls volleyball team is, hopefully, getting ready to turn the corner on its season.

The Elks lost five matches Sept. 19 in the Slinger Invitational at Slinger High School, but played competitive volleyball.

The Elks opened with a 27-25, 25-10 loss to Slinger and lost in three matches to Grafton. Elkhorn lost the first match 25-20, won the second match 25-19 and lost the third match 15-6.

The Elks lost 25-10, 25-21 to New Berlin Eisenhower and lost to Waukesha North in three sets. North won the first set 25-19, lost the second set 25-21 and won the third set 16-14.

The Elks lost their final match 25-10, 25-13 to Hartland Arrowhead.

The Elks lost Sept. 14 in a non-conference match at home to Big Foot in three sets – 25-14, 25-16, 25-14. The Elks lost Sept. 15 in a tight Southern Lakes Conference match at home to Badger. Badger won 25-20, 25-21, 25-21

“As you can see, we are showing improvement,” Elks coach Justin Diderrich said. “The girls are getting better every match we go out and play. They are learning how to play together and are learning how to anticipate the play so that they are not late to the ball.

“I am very pleased with the improvement, and I am expecting a strong showing at Delavan.”
