The Elkhorn Area High School boys tennis team lost a share of first place in the Southern Lakes Conference May 7 with a 5-2 dual meet loss at home to Westosha Central.

The Elks won all three doubles matches and beat Jefferson 4-3 May 4 in a non-conference dual meet at Jefferson.

Elkhorn played Waterford at home Monday in a SLC dual meet.

The SLC Varsity Tennis Tournament starts today. Elkhorn plays host to the singles matches and Badger plays host to the doubles matches.

“We had very tough matches across the board,” Elks coach Donna Neshek said of the dual meet against Westosha. “We had our chances at No. 1 and 2 doubles and No. 3 singles, but we just couldn’t catch them.”

Elkhorn’s Matt Nelson, at No. 2 singles, lost 6-3 in the first set to Central’s Josh Teumer before winning the next two sets 6-4, 7-6.

Carter Olson at No. 4 singles beat Central’s Christian Laney 6-4 in the first set before losing the second set 7-5. Olson won the third set 7-6.

Westosha swept the doubles matches and won two of four singles matches.

“We feel that in a rematch, the results could be very different,” Neshek said. “We hope to see many of these players in the conference finals.”

Against Jefferson, Olson at No. 4 singles beat Ryan Messer 6-3, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Logan Riese and Joe Korosec won 6-4, 7-5. Drayke Webster and Noah Lindenberg at No. 2 doubles beat Bryant Bare and Marcus Thomas 6-0, 6-3 and     Ian Tuck and Colin Passler at No. 3 doubles beat Jefferson’s Nicholas Hoover and Adrian Storey 6-2, 6-1
