Netters slip to second in conference

The Elkhorn Area High School boys’ tennis team split a pair of Southern Lakes Conference dual meets last week and slipped to second in the conference standings.

The Elks beat Union Grove 5-2 April 30 at Union Grove and lost 4-3 to Wilmot April 28 at home.

The Elks played a non-conference dual meet Monday at Jefferson, and play host today to SLC foe Westosha Central.

Elkhorn plays Friday in a triangular meet at Fort Atkinson’s Rock River Park against Fort Atkinson and Jefferson.

The Elks won three of four singles matches and two of three doubles matches versus the Broncos.

At No. 2 singles, Matt Nelson beat CJ Maurer 6-2, 6-4. Aaron Wales at No. 3 singles beat Jacob Genal 6-2, 6-0 and Carter Olson defeated Thomas Salon 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

At No. 2 doubles, Drayke Webster and Noah Lindenberg beat Jakob Wendorf and Josh Allain 6-3, 6-1, and Ian Tuck and Brandt Christensen, at No. 3 singles, defeated def Austin Westberg and Tanner Kastenson 6-2, 6-2.

Elks coach Donna Neshek said Union Grove beat Wilmot earlier this season. Elkhorn trails Wilmot by one point in the conference standings.

Nelson beat Kalyn Coose 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Wales and Olson, playing at No. 1 doubles, beat Matt Bonogofsky and Collin Robinson 6-1, 7-5 after losing the first set 6-2.

Webster and Lindenberg defeated Brandon Zarstrow and Mason Kuwik 6-2, 6-1.

“Drayke Webster and Noah Lindenberg are showing very well executed doubles play so far this season as our No. 2 doubles team,” Neshek said.
