Fourteen members of the Elkhorn Area High School boys and girls cross country teams finished with personal best times Sept. 18 at the Badger Invitational at Lake Geneva Badger High School.

Nine of the Elks’ 13 entries in the boys’ race and five of nine runners in the girls’ race posted personal-best finishes.

Arandu Huerta and Maddie Barlow each finished 10th in their respective races and led the Elks. Huerta finished 10th in the boys’ race in 18 minutes, 36 seconds and Barlow finished 10th in the girls’ race in 21 minutes, 36 seconds.

The Elkhorn girls finished fourth in the team standings.  Four of Elkhorn’s seven runners in the girls race finished in the top 25.

Taylor Mair finished 11th (21:37), Monique Briand finished 21st (22:37) and Luz Contreras finished 22nd (23:38).

Diane Lopez finished 34th (24:41) and Aubrey Clikeman 38th (25:17). Natalie Sesing placed 43rd (27:23).

“It has been great to have two girls in medal contention in most of our meets,” Elks’ coach Randi Wulf said. “Now we need the rest of the varsity team to continue closing the gap between them and our top two.”

For the boys, Jacob Truesdale finished 22nd (19:31) and Connor LaFavor 30th (19:58). Tim Crum finished 32nd (20:04), Oscar Contreras 39th (20:56) and Sam DiVarco 50th (21:46). Logan Radlein finished 53rd (21:54) and Jake Nethery 54th (21:12)

“Our team, as a whole has been fighting through sickness and minor injuries the last couple of weeks,” Wulf said.
