A two-game stretch with Evansville last week didn’t quite turn out the way the East Troy High School softball team hoped.

Now it’s up to the Trojans to bounce back.

East Troy dropped a pair of Rock Valley Conference decisions, 10-0 last Tuesday at Evansville, followed by a 10-1 decision May 5 at home.

The Trojans (7-6 overall, 6-5 RVC) were scheduled to host Jefferson Tuesday afternoon. Results were unavailable by press time.

Despite the lopsided score in the second game with Evansville, there were some positives, East Troy coach Greg Prince said.

“It was a much better game than the score would indicate,” he said. “The score was 1-0 Evansville going into the sixth when our defense once gain made a couple of crucial mistakes allowing Evansville to put together big innings in the sixth and seventh.”

Evansville scored seven runs in the sixth, as East Troy had four errors in the inning.

East Troy’s only run came in the sixth on a double by Sophia Heimos and a pair of groundouts that chased her home.

The Trojans finished with six hits, as Kaitlyn O’Connell, Maria Longstreet, Vanessa Dingman, Hunter Scheel, Heimos and Erin Rice each had one.

“We were much more competitive at the plate,” Prince said. “Our at bats were much better, and we made more solid contact. We were more aggressive and looking to hit the ball. Unfortunately, it didn’t convert to runs.”

Heimos pitched all six innings, and allowed six hits, six walks and struck out three. Just one of Evansville’s 10 runs charged to Heimos was earned.

In the week’s first game, Evansville led 4-0 before a six-run fifth ended things via the 10-run rule.

East Troy had just two hits, one each by Longstreet and Victoria Pott. Heimos allowed seven earned runs, eight hits, to walks and struck out one in five innings.

Following Tuesday’s game with Jefferson, the Trojans travel to Jefferson Thursday, followed by the Walworth County Tournament at West Park, Darien, Saturday. East Troy travels to McFarland next Tuesday, May 17.

Baseball goes 1-3

The East Troy baseball team added one victory in four games to its ledger the past week.

East Troy (3-10 overall, 3-8 RVC) dropped an 11-2 decision May 3 at Evansville, but bounced back to win the rematch 5-3 two days later. The Trojans fell 10-1 to Sauk Prairie and 8-2 to Waunakee Saturday.

Nick Bertschinger led East Troy against Sauk Prairie with two hits. The Trojans scored their lone run in the top of the third inning.

Brendan Sullivan took the loss, as he allowed three walks in 3 2/3 innings, while Logan Parsons struck out two in 2 1/3.

East Troy scored single runs in the second and fourth innings against Waunakee. Jon Ciriacks had two hits, while Nick Ruffalo allowed four walks in six innings on the mound.

Details from East Troy’s win May 5 were unavailable.

The Trojans were back in action Tuesday against visiting Jefferson, followed by the rematch at Jefferson Thursday. East Troy travels to McFarland next Tuesday.

Soccer drops two

The East Troy girls soccer team fell 2-1 at Edgerton last Tuesday and 6-0 to visiting Evansville May 5.

Brianna Probst scored the Trojans’ only goal against Edgerton off an assist by Kayla Casper. Goalie Jessica Gulig had two saves.

East Troy travels to Big Foot-Williams Bay Thursday night. No more information was available this week.
