Grapplers compete at Burlington dual

A dual meet tournament at Burlington Saturday gave the East Troy High School wrestling team a chance to see how it stacked up against five Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1 schools.

And, all in all, it wasn’t a bad effort.

East Troy finished the day at 2-3 overall. The Trojans defeated Fort Atkinson 42-33 and South Milwaukee 62-12, but fell to Burlington 66-13, Mukwonago 53-18 and Oak Creek 54-27.

Posting victories in the win over Fort Atkinson were Cody Vogel (126), by pin in 1:39; Gabe Braam (132), 7-2; Andy Strey (145), by pin in 1:11; Sam Foley (152), 2-0; Jeremy Dedick (160), by pin in 3:32; and Chris Storandt (195), by pin in 3:24.

East Troy also picked up a forfeit victory at 120 pounds.

The Trojans won nine matches in their dominating effort over South Milwaukee.     Picking up victories were Albert Fletcher (113), by pin in 1:49; Vogel (120), by technical fall 16-1; Braam (132), 1-0; Griffin Baker (138), by pin in 128; Strey (145), by pin in 1:15; Travis Cadman (182), by pin in 2:28; Storandt (195), by pin in 3:16; Nathan Dallas (220), by pin in 1:32; and Joe Moede (106), by pin in 3:31.

The Trojans also received forfeit wins at 152 and 285 pounds.

Wins were difficult to come by against Burlington, considered one of the favorites in the Southern Lakes Conference.

East Troy won just two matches on the mat, Vogel (120), by major decision 9-1, and Storandt (285), 1-0. The Trojans other win came by forfeit at 106 pounds.

Winning matches in the dual against Mukwonago were Vogel (120), 9-2; Strey (145), 6-3; Dedick (160), by pin in 1:48; and Storandt (285), by pin in 58 seconds.

Against Oak Creek, the Trojans also won four matches. Picking up victories were Storandt (285), 4-1; Braam (132), by pin in 3:46; Strey (145), by pin in 1:15; and Dedick (160), by pin in 2:43. East Troy’s fifth win came via forfeit at 120 pounds.

The Trojans opened action last week with a 61-12 Rock Valley Conference win Jan. 6 at Jefferson.

Earning wins were Bram (138), by major decision 12-2; Foley (152), by pin in 1:28; Storandt (220), by pin in 1:59; Moede (106), by pin in 1:56; and Vogel (126), 6-2.

East Troy received forfeits at 145, 160, 182, 195, 285 and 113 pounds. Both teams forfeited at 120 pounds.

The Trojans returned to RVC dual meet action Thursday night against visiting Whitewater. East Troy then will be idle until Saturday, Jan. 24, when it competes at the Fort Atkinson Invitational.
