The East Troy High School girls volleyball team definitely faced a schedule of heavy hitters at last weekend’s prestigious Sprawl Invitational.

And the defending WIAA Division 2 state champions more than held their own.

East Troy finished the two-day even with a 3-2 overall record to place seventh in the 24-team field. The Trojans took a 20-7 overall record and a 5-0 mark in the Rock Valley Conference into a road match Tuesday night at McFarland.

Results of that contest were unavailable at press time.

At the Sprawl, East Troy faced five squads that currently are ranked in Division 1 and 2 by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association.

East Troy, ranked second in Division 2, opened play with a 25-14, 25-17 win over Wisconsin Lutheran and a 25-19, 21-25, 15-9 win over Divine Savior Holy Angels.

Wisconsin Lutheran currently is listed as an honorable mention squad in Division 2, while DSHA is ranked third in Division 1.

The Trojans’ first loss came to Brookfield East, ranked No. 2 in Division 1, 25-23, 13-25, 13-25. East Troy split its final two matches, as it defeated DePere 25-21, 25-15, but fell to Manitowoc Lincoln, 18-25, 22-25.

Both DePere and Manitowoc are honorable mention in Division 2 and Division 1, respectively.

East Troy opened play last week with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-16 RVC win Sept. 25 over visiting Evansville.

Statistics from that match and the tournament, along with comments from East Troy coach Jeremy Weis were unavailable this week.

Following Tuesday’s match at McFarland, East Troy will travel to Jefferson Oct. 2, to face the Eagles.

Jefferson entered play this week at 3-1 in the RVC, while McFarland was 4-2.
