After the first week of the season, the Delavan-Darien High School boys soccer team owned a 3-0-1 record. Head coach Mike Marse said he’s happy with the start.

“The things we’re trying to do are working. The thing we were worried about with playing the 4-3-3 formation the way we wanted to was would our defense be able to get back and our defense has been able to handle other teams’ speed,” Marse said.

He said overall, the season is going pretty good.

“The Racine Case game was a bit of a disappointment because we were up 3-0 at halftime and then gave up the three goals [in the second half]. We had a red card and showed some of our youth in that game,” Marse said.

Over the first four games of the season, the Comets have outscored their opponents 25-6. In the fifth game, against Janesville Craig on Sept. 3, Delavan-Darien hit the road for the game and came away with a 3-0 win, upping its record to 4-0-1.

Dieonte Orth scored the lone second half goal, while assisting on the two in the first half.

“That was a good game for us. Janesville Craig is a good team and they have a lot of speed up top,” the coach said.
