Gymnasts open season on solid note

The Elkhorn Area High School gymnastics team opened its 2014-15 season Dec. 5 with a third-place finish in the Cardinal Classic at Sun Prairie High School.

The Elks scored a team total of 110.975 points. Host Sun Prairie won the invitational with a team score of 134.425.

Jefferson finished second (114.125), Markesan fourth (99.35) and Waupun finished fifth (84.3).

Amy Kolacke finished sixth on the vault (8.2), Cameron Jacobson finished sixth on the uneven bars (6.55) and Megan Jacobson finished sixth on the balance beam (7.6) and seventh in the floor exercise (8.05) for the Elks’ best individual finishes in each event.

Cameron Jacobson finished eighth (7.35), Kolacke 12th (7.15), Ronica Fuller 13th (7.05) and Madison Neinfeldt 17th (6.75) on the balance beam. Sun Prairie’s Abby Millard won the event (8.55).

Neinfeldt finished 11th (7.85), Cameron Jacobson 15th (7.6), Megan Jacobson 16th (7.5) and Fuller 17th (7.3) on the vault. Millard won the vault (9.0).

Neinfeldt finished 14th (5.2), Kolacke 16th (4.725), and Megan Jacobson 19th (3.95) on the uneven bars. Sun Prairie’s Allayah Lane won the event (8.4).

Fuller finished 11th (7.65), Cameron Jacobson 12th (7.55), Kolacke 15th (7.0) and Neinfeldt 17th (6.85) in the floor exercise. Lane won the floor exercise (8.95).

Cameron Jacobson finished eighth in the all-around (29.05). Megan Jacobson finished 10th (27.10), Kolacke finished 11th (27.075) and Neinfeldt 13th (26.65). Millard won the all-around (33.70).

The Elks next compete Dec. 18 at home in a non-conference dual meet against Milton.
