JERRY E. PETERS

      Jerry E. Peters, 86, of Delavan, died April 27, 2017, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.

He was born in Elkhorn on Jan. 27, 1931, to Harold and Jeannette (Bennett) Peters. He was united in marriage to Maxine Schmidt on Sept. 12, 1959, in Delavan. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from April 24, 1951, to April 19, 1955. He was a longtime employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a past Commander of Post 95 in Delavan and Walworth County Legion, past member of the Spring Grove Cemetery Association, and founding member of “Hatless Harry’s”.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maxine; two daughters, Janet (Christopher) Hughes, of Chicago, and Valerie (Greg) Faust, of Sun Prairie; three grandchildren, Madison Faust, Margaret Hughes, and Michael Hughes; and many other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. May 1 at First Baptist Church, 212 S. Main Street in Delavan. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. April 30 at Monroe Funeral Home, 604 E. Walworth Ave and an hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Burial with military honors will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Delavan. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the First Baptist Church.

    How very sorry we are to hear of Jerry’s passing. Also sorry that we can not be there for you today at his funeral. Flying home tomorrow and will see you soon. May God comfort you and your family.
