DE 5'26'16 OBIT Schaid      William R. “Bob” Schaid, 90, of Walworth, passed away peacefully May 20, 2016, at Golden Years of Walworth.

Bob was born on Nov. 5, 1925, in Walworth, to the late William and Elsie (Pflaum) Schaid of Walworth. He graduated from Walworth High School in 1943. Bob was a member of Reserve Officers’ Training Corp, enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Ardmore, Okla., where he married Eunice C. (Voss) Schaid, of Walworth, on March 24, 1945.

Bob and Eunice moved back to Wisconsin in 1945. Bob attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and then in 1947 he entered the U.S. Postal Service as a substitute clerk in the Walworth office. In 1958, Bob was named postmaster of the Walworth post office where he continued to serve until his retirement in 1979. Bob also owned and operated The Schaid Agency selling insurance and real estate.

Bob was a charter member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walworth where he served in various leadership roles and sang in the church choir. He also sang tenor in a local barbershop quartet for many years, providing entertainment at area events and social gatherings. Bob was active in the Walworth community. Among his several contributions to the community, he was a member of the Walworth Masonic Lodge and served in the American Legion Post 102, the Walworth-Fontana Rotary Club, the Historical Society of Walworth and Big Foot Prairie and the Walworth Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and traveled extensively. He was proud that he and Eunice were able to travel together to every state in the union at least once, as well as taking several trips abroad. Most of all, Bob loved his family and always looked forward to spending time with his three children, their spouses, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice; his three children, Lynn (Rick) Lottig, of Delavan, Terry (Susan) Schaid, of Walworth, and Tim (Jennifer) Schaid, of Madison; his grandchildren, Kellee (Craig) Rollins, of Noblesville, Ind., Darin (Lisa) Lottig, of Lake Geneva, Holly (Jim) Bender of Lake Mills, Alison Schaid, of Elkhorn, TJ Schaid, of Minneapolis, Emily Schaid, of Walworth, Andrew (Leigh) Schaid, of Portland, Ore., Nicholas (Valerie) Schaid, of Rockford, Ill., Elise (Andy) Anhalt, of Madison, and Kelsey Schaid, of Madison; and his six great-grandchildren, Kate Rollins, Quinten Lottig, Charlie, AJ and Lyndsey Bender and Henry Anhalt. He is further survived by his sister, Evelynn (Frank) Andersen, and his brother, Kenneth (the late Nancy) Schaid, both of Walworth. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Wilma Schaid and Mildred (the late Milton) Pflaum.

Visitation with the family will occur at the Toynton’s Walworth Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and again at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walworth at 10 a.m. Wednesday with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family has asked that memorials be given in his name to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank the emergency-medical-technician staff of the Walworth Rescue Squad, the medical and care staff at Mercy Walworth Hospital and Medical Center in Lake Geneva and Aurora Lakeland Medical Center for their valuable assistance on March 17. The family would also like to thank the care staff at Golden Years of Walworth.
