JOSEPH E. SCHWEITZER

Joseph Schweitzer picture      Joseph E. Schweitzer, 66, of Elkhorn, died unexpectedly Dec. 29, 2015, at his home.

He was born Nov. 1, 1949, in Detroit, the son of the late Joseph Wm. and Edna Mae (Jones) Schweitzer. Joe served in the US Air Force from 1968 until 1971, with tours of duty in Turkey, and England. He was united in marriage to Joni E. Greb on Jan. 25, 1971, in Oundle, England.

Joe served as a decorated Sheriff’s Deputy with the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department for over 27 years, retiring in 2002. While there, Joe was the head negotiator with the S.W.A.T. team, the first officer to train as an EMT, and for many years also served with the Elkhorn Ambulance Service. Joe was a proud member of the Elkhorn American Legion, Post #6375.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joni; his children, Jim Schweitzer, of Las Vegas, and Jeri Lindsey, of Waterford; three grandchildren, Connor Grunden, Rodney and Marsha Whetlow; four sisters, Carol (Siegfried) Siebeneich, Mary (Terry) Sorenson and Janet Payne, all of Kenosha, and Kathy (Jeff) Paradise, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and also by a host of other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marsha.
