MARY ELLEN ZABEL REBENSTORF

Mary Ellen Zabel Rebenstorf, 92, of Elkhorn, entered eternal heavenly peace on Nov. 6, 2015, at Lakeland Health Care Center.

She was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Elkhorn, the eldest daughter of Paul and Nellie (Slattery) Zabel. She was a graduate of Whitewater High School and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

She married Howard Rebenstorf on Jan. 25, 1947, in Elkhorn. She was a secretary for attorney Charles E. Wilson of Elkhorn and held several other secretarial positions before she graduated from UW-Whitewater and taught a short time at Waterford High School.

She was an excellent student and received many awards such as graduating cum laude from all elementary schools and UW-Whitewater. Mary spent 10 winters in Winter Haven, Fla., with Howard and continued to enjoy the Winter Haven warm temperatures for nine more years. She loved to play all kinds of card games, sew, crochet and visit with family and friends.

Mary was the beloved mother to Cindy (Larry) Heindl, of Delavan. She is survived by two grandchildren, Robert Heindl and Stephanie (Shawn) Klug, both of Delavan; a sister, Alice Fairchild, of Lake Geneva; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard, in 1993; and her beloved sister, Ruth Kuhnle.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Lakeland Health Care Center for the wonderful care given to Mary during her stay there.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Roselawn Memory Gardens with the Rev. Laura McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens in the Town of Delavan. Friends may call in the chapel at Roselawn from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
