DONALD LUCIUS SMITH

Donald Lucius Smith, 84 of Delavan, died at his home April 5, 2015 of natural causes.

Smith was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Delavan to Lucius Smith and Alice Davidson. He was a 1949 Delavan High School graduate and a graduate of Milton College. He served in the Korean conflict with the U.S. Navy. After service he returned to Wisconsin and continued his education, earning double masters degrees in administration and guidance and counseling at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Smith was principal of Viola-Scandinavia School and assistant principal of Watertown High School. He also was counselor in the Milton school system.

He was also a member of the Delavan American Legion Post 95. He married Jean Whitehead Koval on Dec. 15, 1983 in Delavan. He is survived by his wife, Jean Ellyn, of Delavan, nieces and friends.

A memorial gathering will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Betzer Funeral Home with Dick Rice officiating. After the services, friends are invited to American Legion Hall for a reception. Burial in Spring Grove Cemetery will immediately follow funeral home service and precede the reception at the Legion Hall.

Betzer Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the D-DHS Foundation in Smith’s name.
