GEORGE KIRKPATRICK

George Kirkpatrick II, 68, of Delavan, passed away on Nov. 3, 2014, after a short illness of cancer.

He was born Aug. 29, 1946. He was the second son of George Kirkpatrick and Eva (Hansen) Wood. He attended North Walworth Grade School and graduated in 1964 from Big Foot High School. He married Veronica Eicksteadt on May 20, 1967.

He wrote this before his death:

“I’ve been broke and well off, raced Harleys and survived car accidents, had injuries fixed and the benefit of two angioplasties, flown first class and hitch-hiked in the rain, slept in hotel suites and on rescue mission cots, feasted at banquets and ate at soup kitchens, mingled with the elite and passed a bottle with winos, downed a few beers and drank afternoon coffee. I was privileged to have a career representing working people. I was employed 14 years as an electrician at Borg Instruments. I then served 21 years as a business representative for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.”

“For 47 years I’ve shared a better companion than I ever deserve – my wife. I’ve watched our children turn into fine adults, our grandchildren become adults, and our great grandchildren start life.”

He was a Wisconsin sports fan, particularly a Packer backer. His hobbies included investing and finances. He was active in the Democractic party, and election teller for Walworth Township, then Delavan Township. He also served on the Walworth County canvas committee.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Randy (Anne), of Elkhorn, and Curtis (Sandra), of Delavan; one brother, Daniel (Vicky), of Milton, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two greatgrandsons. He is also survived by his stepfather, Elmer Wood; three stepbrothers, Donavon (Gayle) Wood, Robert Wood, Ronald Wood; and one stepsister, Jeannie Hillman, all of Rockford, Ill.; a special niece, Sandra Robert, of Lake Geneva; and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Thomas Kirkpatrick.
