JEAN B. BLACK

Jean B. Black, 74, of Delavan, died July 24, 2014, at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. She was born Dec. 2, 1939, to Floyd and Cecil (Mauldin) Blashfield. She married Wallace Black. He preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1996.

She was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Delavan. She was an author of more than 250 fiction and non-fiction books for children and worked in the publishing industry for more than half a century. She also was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Aram Public Library Board and Masterpiece Chorale.

She is survived by her children, Winston (Emily Reiner) Black, of Massachusetts, and Chandelle (Diego) Arambula, of California; step-daughter, Cindy Black, of Florida; three grandchildren Gabriel Black, and Camila and Lola Arambula; two sisters, Elizabeth Blashfield, of Elkhorn, and Carol Rawlins, of California; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Christ in Delavan with the Rev. Laura McLeod officiating. Visitation will from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship will be established. Monroe Funeral Home in Delavan is assisting the family.
