DONALD “DUCK” VEST

Donald “Duck” Vest, 57, of Harvard, Ill., died June 24, 2014, at his home.

Duck was born Dec. 31, 1956, to Gene A. and June M. (Collins) Vest in Harvard, Ill. On Oct. 26, 1991, he married Carol Lynn Reuter in Crystal Lake, Ill. He worked at Dean Foods for 26 years and had been a locksmith since 1991.

He was a volunteer fireman in Harvard, Ill., for 10 years, a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvard, Ill., and had coached Little League baseball. He was an avid Bears fan and enjoyed watching baseball, football, pro and college basketball. Duck also enjoyed playing cards, golf and bowling.

He savored the time he spent with his great-niece Bryleigh. She was the apple of his eye. He loved spending time with his son and cherished all the time he spent with his family, showing this by attending all the family functions. He was known by many as being a jokester and loved giving his sisters a hard time by calling them his four “older” sisters, even though he was actually the oldest. Duck had a heart of gold and would help anyone, even if it meant he went without.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Lynn Vest, of Harvard, Ill.; his son, Matthew (Jessica Wiegel) Reuter, of Harvard, Ill.; his mother, June Vest; four sisters, Debbie (Ken) Morris, of Harvard, Ill., Ruthann (Bob Camren) Vest of Capron, Ill., Nancy (David) Vermett, of Walworth, and Barb (Rich) Braun, of Pell Lake; one brother, Terry McEnenany, of Harvard, Ill.; several aunts and uncles; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Vest; brother, Mickey Vest; three uncles, Bobbie, Eddie and Dale Collins; his maternal and paternal grandparents; father and mother-in-law, Don and Mary Anderson; brother-in-law, Randy Reuter; and two sisters-in-law, Cathy Reuter and Mary Williams.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 504 E. Diggins St., Harvard, Ill. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Harvard, Ill. The Rev. Herb Priester will officiate.
