NORMAN OTTO MIETHKE

Norman Otto Miethke, 85, of Onalaska, formerly of Sharon, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 14, 2014, in La Crosse. He was born in Sharon on Nov. 11, 1928, to Otto and Violet (Jacobs) Miethke.

He served in the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart. In 1954, he married Barbara Williams. They were married for 55 years and resided in Sharon for most of their lives until her death in 2009.

Norm worked as a bread deliveryman, grocery store meat cutter and owner, and eventually retired from Taylor Freezer in Rockton, Ill. after 30 years.

He was a great conversationalist and made friends wherever he went. His quick wit and sense of humor were present until the end. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching baseball, and especially, spending time with his family.

Norm is survived by his son, Steve (Jeanne) of Onalaska; daughter, Julie (Dan) Beyers, of Williams Bay; five grandchildren, Lindsay (Jeremy) Lenser, Emily (Peter) Vander Velden, and Evan, Wyatt, and Mallory Beyers; one great grandchild, Jack Lenser; two sisters, Joy Smith and Betty (Billy) Chism; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bob Dodge, Charlotte Dodge, Sally and Ron Combs; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends at Ona Terrace.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, infant daughter Kathy, and brother Don.

Visitation was March 21 at Toynton Funeral Home in Sharon. Memorial services were March 22 at Sharon United Methodist Church.

Memorial remembrances in Norm’s name may be made to Sharon United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.

His family thanka the staff at Mayo Health System for their care to Norm and the family, especially Dr. Husfeldt and Dr. Beahm.
